If the ongoing reports are anything to go by, Tamil cinema's legendary Superstar Rajinikanth will be awarded Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award. Fresh reports say that the union government will make an official announcement on Padma awardees on the Republic Day, January 26th.
This latest move by BJP is being seen as a last big effort to convince Rajinikanth in making him extend his support to BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, which are due in April. It is well known that Narendra Modi's efforts in winning Rajinikanth's support during the 2014 polls were unfruitful.
Apart from Rajini, the BJP will also reportedly award veteran actor Anupam Kher with a Padma Bhushan award. Anupam Kher has been strongly voicing his support to the Modi-led BJP since 2014 and his actress wife Kirron Kher is already a BJP MP.
Also, reports are rife that Bollywood's most successful pan India actress Priyanka Chopra will be awarded with the Padma Shri award.
